Horse Management Tips

Correct feeding rates are influenced by hay or pasture quality as well as the age, body size, condition and performance demands of the horse.
  • Feed at least 1.0-1.75% of a horse’s body weight in good quality hay or pasture each day.
  • Divide grain ration into a minimum of two daily feedings.
  • Feed all parts of a ration by weight, not by volume.
  • Make changes in your horse’s diet gradually. When replacing existing diets, do so over 10 to 14 days.
  • Provide fresh, clean water to your horse at all times. Feed adequate salt as conditions dictate.
  • Consult your veterinarian to design a health care program for your horse.
